Hora (from the Sanskrit Ahorātra, meaning “day and night”) is a special divisional chart used in Vedic astrology to assess a person’s prosperity and wealth potential. It is one of the simplest yet most powerful of the divisional charts (vargas), as it divides each zodiac sign into two equal halves of 15 degrees.
Each sign of the zodiac is split in two:
Odd signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, etc.): First 15° belong to the Sun’s Hora (Leo) Second 15° belong to the Moon’s Hora (Cancer) Even signs (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, etc.): First 15° belong to the Moon’s Hora (Cancer) Second 15° belong to the Sun’s Hora (Leo)
To build the Hora chart:
Write down the exact degrees of each planet in the Rashi chart (birth chart). Assign each planet to either the Sun’s or Moon’s Hora, depending on its degree and the nature of the sign it’s in. Place planets into the sign of Leo (Sun’s Hora) or Cancer (Moon’s Hora) accordingly. Analyse the distribution.
✦ Interpreting the Hora
If:
Male planets are placed in the Sun’s Hora (Leo) Female planets are placed in the Moon’s Hora (Cancer)
…then the individual is said to be destined for wealth and abundance.
