Papakartari Yoga (“Inauspicious Planetary Combination”)

Papakartari Yoga is formed when a planet or house is hemmed in—surrounded on both sides—by malefic (harmful) planets. A planet caught in this kind of placement loses its strength and struggles to express its positive qualities.

In Albert Einstein’s horoscope, there are two instances of Papakartari Yoga:

Mercury, the ruler of the 1st and 4th houses, is surrounded by malefics. As a result, Einstein had to endure exile, loss of German citizenship, and persecution in his homeland. Jupiter, the ruler of the 7th and 10th houses, is placed in the 9th house. Despite eventually receiving a Nobel Prize for his contributions to science, many of his ideas were not well received by his contemporaries. Moreover, his breakthrough discovery—the relationship between mass and energy—ultimately led to the creation of nuclear weapons.

Gaja-Kesari Yoga (“Yoga of the Elephant and the Lion”)

This yoga forms when Jupiter (Guru) is placed in a Kendra (angular house: 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th) from either the Ascendant (Lagna) or the Moon (Chandra). For this yoga to be powerful, Jupiter should:

Not be combust (burnt by the Sun)

Not be in its sign of debilitation

Not be placed in a hostile sign Ideally be joined or aspected by a benefic planet

In many cases, simply placing Jupiter in a Kendra is enough to activate Gaja-Kesari Yoga. However, when all the additional positive conditions are met, the yoga becomes exceptionally strong, often equivalent in power to a Raja Yoga.

Results of Gaja-Kesari Yoga include:

✨ High social status

✨ Nobility and generosity

✨ Good health and a sound character

✨ Widespread fame

This powerful yoga is also present in Einstein’s chart.
