Vimshottari Dasha: The Planetary Timeline of Destiny

Mahadashas & Antardashas

The Vimshottari Dasha system spans a total of 120 years, mirroring what the great sage Parashara considered the ideal human lifespan during this age—Kali Yuga, the present cosmic era.

🔱 And was the sage wrong?

Not at all. When one lives in accordance with dharma, aligned with the rhythms of nature and spirit, life can indeed reach up to 120 years.

This sacred time structure is divided among the nine planets, each of which rules over a specific number of years, depending on its karmic magnitude.

🪐 Each planet governs three nakshatras, and through them, distributes its karmic influence over the corresponding period of your life.

🔄 How Your Life Clock Starts: The Janma Nakshatra

The sequence of your planetary periods—known as dashas—is determined by the nakshatra the Moon occupied at the moment of your birth, also called the Janma Nakshatra.

That nakshatra is ruled by one of the nine grahas (planets), and that planet becomes the ruler of your first planetary period, or Mahadasha.

This first period imprints your life with its distinct colour—its flavour and lessons—starting from the very moment you take your first breath.
