In Vedic astrology, planets don’t just act in isolation — they look, they gaze, they cast their influence across the chart. This is known as drishti, or aspect — the “sight” or glance of a planet. When a planet aspects another house or planet, it shares its energetic imprint, subtly altering the qualities of what it touches.
🪐 Universal Aspects
All planets, by default, aspect the 7th house from their own position. For example, if the Sun is placed in Pisces and Jupiter in Virgo, they are said to mutually aspect one another — an exchange of influence that subtly blends their qualities.
🌟 Special Aspects
Some planets cast additional, unique aspects:
Jupiter aspects the 5th, 7th, and 9th houses from its position, radiating wisdom, expansion, and grace. Mars throws its fiery glance at the 4th, 7th, and 8th houses — bringing courage, aggression, and sometimes conflict. Saturn, with its slow, disciplined gaze, aspects the 3rd, 7th, and 10th houses — lending patience, burden, and endurance.
Among Jyotishis, there is no single consensus on whether Rāhu and Ketu cast aspects. Some traditions hold that these shadow planets influence only by conjunction (occupying the same sign). Others, especially in practical experience, observe that Rāhu and Ketu aspect the 5th, 7th, and 9th houses from their position, acting as malefics that disturb or intensify what they gaze upon.
Even without direct contact, mutual aspecting creates a fusion of energies, though it is generally subtler than a full conjunction. For instance, if Jupiter aspects the Sun, the person will likely show interest in religion or righteousness. But if Jupiter is conjunct the Sun, these qualities are not just present — they are amplified, defining features of personality.
