In Vedic Astrology, your birth chart holds keys to where your natural luck and challenges come from — and three special points help explain it:
✨ 1️⃣ Yoga Sphuta (Yogi Point): The Prosperity Giver
This point sits in a specific nakshatra (lunar mansion) at your birth. The planet that rules this nakshatra is called your Yogi planet — this is your lucky planet, the one that brings prosperity, growth, ease, and flourishing opportunities when active or well-aspected.
⚠️ 2️⃣ Avayoga Sphuta (Avayogi Point): The Obstacle Maker
This point also falls in a nakshatra, and its ruler is your Avayogi planet — the one that can block prosperity, cause delays, or create difficulties.
When this planet is prominent (like in transits or dashas), life may feel stuck or challenged.
🌿 3️⃣ Dispositor of the Yogi Point: The Helper
This is the ruler of the zodiac sign where your Yogi Point sits. It can support the Yogi planet, helping to amplify luck, reduce struggles, and soften the obstacles that the Avayogi might trigger.
💡 A few key tips to understand how they work together:
If your Avayogi planet is in difficult houses (3rd, 6th, 8th, or 12th) or debilitated, its power to harm is weakened. If the Avayogi and Dispositor are the same planet, it slightly reduces negative effects but doesn’t actively boost luck. Planets sitting in the nakshatra of your Yogi Point will behave helpfully. Planets sitting in the nakshatra of your Avayogi Point tend to behave disruptively.
⏳ Timing (Transits & Dashas):
Transits of benefic planets over your Yogi Point can trigger fortunate phases. Transits of malefic planets over your Avayogi Point can feel like a period of obstacles or setbacks. Dashas or sub-periods (Antardashas) ruled by your Yogi planet, or planets in supportive placements relative to it, tend to bring prosperity. Dashas of your Avayogi planet may bring more tests or disruptions.
❤️ Compatibility with Others:
People whose key planets (Moon, Jupiter, Lagna lord, 7th house ruler) fall in your Yogi nakshatra can boost your luck and well-being. People whose key planets fall in your Avayogi nakshatra may block your flow or challenge your path — consciously or unconsciously.
🎯 Why this matters:
By learning your Yogi and Avayogi planets, you can better time decisions, understand relationship dynamics, and align your efforts with periods and people that naturally support your success.
Tips
✅ To calculate your Yogi, Avayogi, and Dispositor planets:
You will need:
1️⃣ The Yoga Sphuta degree and nakshatra
2️⃣ The Avayoga Sphuta degree and nakshatra
3️⃣ The sign lord (dispositor) of Yoga Sphuta
🛠️ How to find your Yoga Sphuta & Avayoga Sphuta
Calculate your Moon’s position in nakshatras For each nakshatra (27 in total), there are specific degree segments.
Your Yoga Sphuta and Avayoga Sphuta are special sensitive points placed within and between nakshatras.
Identify the nakshatra of each Sphuta Once you locate the degree, see which nakshatra that degree falls into (e.g., Bharani, Uttara Bhadrapada, etc.).
Find the ruling planet
The nakshatra lord becomes: Yogi if it’s the nakshatra where Yoga Sphuta lies (brings luck, support).
Avayogi if it’s the nakshatra where Avayoga Sphuta lies (creates obstacles, challenges).
Find the Dispositor Determine the sign of the nakshatra (e.g. Aries, Taurus) and look up which planet rules that sign (e.g. Mars, Venus).
That planet is the Dispositor, acting as a moderator — supporting the Yogi or helping balance the Avayogi.
Manual calculation approach:
In classical Kerala astrology:
The Yoga Sphuta point is computed as:
Yoga Sphuta = Longitude of Lagna + Longitude of Moon + Longitude of Sun
📋 From my chart data (D1 chart):
Ascendant (Lagna) at 12° Gemini = 60° (Gemini starts at 60°) + 12°48′ = approx 72.8°
Moon at 15°44′ Aries = 0° (Aries starts at 0°) + 15.74° = 15.74°
Sun at 20°51′ Aries = 0° + 20.85° = 20.85°
🔹 Step 1: Yoga Sphuta longitude
Yoga Sphuta = 72.8° + 15.74° + 20.85° = 109.39°
This places Yoga Sphuta at:
109.39° – 90° (Cancer start) = 19.39° Cancer
Yoga Sphuta falls at 19° Cancer → Pushya Nakshatra (ruled by Saturn).
➡️ Saturn is your Yoga planet (brings prosperity).
🔹 Step 2: Avayoga Sphuta longitude
Avayoga Sphuta = 72.8° + 15.74° – 20.85° = 67.69°
This places Avayoga Sphuta at:
67.69° – 60° (Gemini start) = 7.69° Gemini
So Avayoga Sphuta falls at 7° Gemini → Ardra Nakshatra (ruled by Rahu).
➡️ Rahu is my Avayoga planet (creates blockages or tests).
🌿 Summary of the key points:

🔔 Interpretation for Lisa:
✅ Saturn as the Yoga planet:
The growth and prosperity come from discipline, patience, structure, and long-term effort. Authority figures and mentors could help you succeed when you respect tradition and persevere. Saturn periods and transits are your key times for growth.
⚠️ Rahu as your Avayoga planet:
Rahu creates confusion, distractions, illusions — especially around speech, contracts, fame, and shortcuts. Avoid manipulative or overly ambitious shortcuts to success. Rahu-related transits/dashas can test you with crises but also offer transformative learning.
✨ Dispositor checks:
Yoga Sphuta in Cancer → dispositor is Moon → Moon in Aries (exalted Sun nearby, but also combust at 57%) → emotional volatility but courage.
Avayoga Sphuta in Gemini → dispositor is Mercury → Mercury retrograde in Aries and combust at 47% → careful with speech, writing, contracts, nervous energy, and choices.
🌿 Now let’s find the DISPOSITOR of the Yoga Sphuta:
The dispositor = the ruler of the zodiac sign where the Yoga Sphuta is located.
Yoga Sphuta is in the sign of Cancer → the ruler of Cancer is the Moon.
👉 Conclusion: The Moon is the dispositor of your Yoga Sphuta.
