Folk signs for April 26: the parable of the bee and the lungwort

Our ancestors had an interesting version of why the bee avoid the lungwort.

The day in the folk calendar has a beautiful name – Thomaida Medunitsa. At this time, people went into the forest to collect lungwort, which they used to brew teas and prepare salads. Surprisingly, people believed that bees could fly seven miles around this fragrant flower.

According to legend, God once gave a bee the task of finding out which flowers produce the most honey. The bee flew all over the earth, and most of all she liked lungwort, bird cherry and woodpecker. But she was afraid that God would take these flowers away from her, so she hid her opinion about them. However, God found out about this, became angry and forbade the bee to collect honey from three honey plants. Since then, the bee, fearing punishment, has avoided the lungwort.
Also on this day it was possible to pick the first shoots of sorrel, which were placed in salads and cabbage soup.
