Celtic Months of the Year

The Celtic tree calendar (existed before the Roman calendar) has 13 lunar divisions named after trees and is used by the Celts.

In this calendar, each month has fixed dates.

December 23 is not ruled by any tree for it is the traditional day of the proverbial “Year and a Day” in the earliest courts of law.

Beth (Birch) December 24 to January 20

Beth, the Birch month, is a time of regeneration and new projects. This is the perfect time to go back to the light once again as the Sun comes back.  During this month, we celebrate the light as the days grow longer. We look up to the beautiful white birch trees for guidance.

Luis (Rowan) January 21 to February 17

Luis, is the Rowan month associated with Brighid. This is the perfect time to perform initiations and for spells of power, success and travel. During this month, we celebrate the Imbolc.

Nion, is the Ash month. It’s a best time to cast the spells that focus on the inner self, spiritual journeys, and prophetic dreams. The most productive tools are made from the branches of the Ash tree.

Coll (Hazel) August 5 to September 1

Coil is the month of the Hazel. This is the month of wisdom and protection magic.

Muin (Vine) September 2 to September 29

Muin is the month of the Vine. This is the time of great abundance. Spells concerning happiness and great passion are best done at this time. This is the perfect time for your ambitions, goals, and dreams.

Gort (Ivy) September 30 to October 27

Gort is the month of the Ivy. This is the perfect time for banishing spells, like to banish negativity from your life. Avoid the things that are bringing you negativity and work on perfecting yourself.

Ivy is associated with the Celtic Lunar Goddess, Arianrhod, Goddess of Reincarnation, fertility, and childbirth. 

Arianrhod represents good luck as well as the mysterious and mystical.

Ruis (Elder) November 25 to December 22

Ruis is the month of the Elder. This is the time of endings. This is the perfect time for spells related to renewal and new beginnings. You can also use Elder in Faerie magic
